ST ALBERT - May 28 & 29, 2005

MONSTER JAM - March 2005Well for the first time in around 5 years we actually had the sun gods shining on us instead of freezing in the minus double digit snow for this years Monster Jam at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The track was okay, not as many jumps and obsticles as we are used to in the outdoor shows but the track needs to be accomodating for all performers. We had 15 very competitive Street Warriors on Friday night, one of them being my lil' Kimmy who did really well for her first crack at it ( I got bigger butterflies for her than I do for me when I race). Jimmy was was our big winner with a time of 17.05 seconds followed by Steve, Rob, Greg, Ralph, Derek, Martin, and Dave. Then came Saturday night where kids lined up for autographs for two hours at the Pit Party and we got to show our great looking trucks. The Best Appearing Award came down to me in the TJ, Ken in the All Juiced Up Jeep and Pete in the Rambunctious Ramcharger, in the end the award went to Ken's and the All Juiced Up. Ken then showed us how its done and how a stock 6 cylinder TJ engine can kick some butt as he was the fast qualifier with a time of 16.86 seconds. The remaining seven trucks qualifying for the Street Warriors Final on Sunday included Jay, Terry, James, Marty, me, Don, and Pete. 8 Street Warriors from Friday and 8 from Saturday’s competition came back to entertain the fans and try to win the big money on Sunday. Again we bow to Ken as he showed us how it was done with his time of 16.51 seconds. Second place went to Steve, and third went to Marty McDonald. The listings are below of how everyone placed over the weekend. Friday night17.05 Shilson, Jimmy 17.23 Richards, Steve 17.92 Foster, Rob 18.00 Mueller, Derek 18.30 Cochrane, Martin 18.65 Lengsfeld, Ralph 18.72 Poland, Greg 19.86 Pinette, Dave 20.41 Lasseter, Jamie 20.51 Hodgins, Kimberly 23.22 Olson, Richard (5 sec. penalty) 25.44 Poland, Kim Saturday Night16.86 Hodgins, Ken 17.00 MacDonald, Marty 17.46 Dunn, Terry 17.47 Morton, Don 17.48 Berreth, Pete 18.07 Lebsack, Jay 18.80 Hodgins, Lisa 19.53 Welch, James 19.55 Cruise, Lisa 19.57 Hamilton, Kevin 20.22 Lebsack, Denise 20.38 Gratton, Jason 21.12 Moes, Corry Sunday 16.51 Hodgins, Ken 17.15 Richards, Steve 17.31 MacDonald, Marty 17.40 Berreth, Pete 17.50 Shilson, Jimmy 17.85 Dunn, Terry 18.00 Cochrane, Martin 18.05 Foster, Rob 18.31 Poland, Greg 18.31 Morton, Don 18.43 Hodgins, Lisa 18.43 Mueller, Derek 19.40 Pinette, Dave 20.20 Welch, James 23.61 Lebsack, Jay (5 sec. penalty) Roll Lasseter, Jamie All in all it was a great weekend! The Street Warriors were my favorite, of course, but the Monsters and Freestyle bikes were pretty awesome too. Thanks to everyone that came out and cheered for us. Special thanks to Terry for allowing us to use his photos. Be sure and visit his website TMS12.COM to see his awesome pictures from the whole event and order some prints.
TEST N' TUNE - February 2005We ended up having an impromtu Test N' Tune on a warm Saturday afternoon before the Monster Jam Race. Terry, Martin, Greg and Kim, Derek and Lisa brought their trucks to see how they would perform. Everyone's trucks worked well and managed to get gobs of swamp goo all over them. Even Dwight decided to see if his 02 Chev was really "Like a Rock". Here are some pics of the fun in the mud, no pics were taken of the party afterward though.....phew :)
2004 RACE REVIEWS
DRUMHELLER - August 2004 The organizers of the 23rd Annual Demolition Derby contacted us to invite some of the tuff truck racers to compete during their event. As it was the first go round we ended up just being filler for when the demo cars were being tugged off. At the last minute Ken and I were asked to help out so we did what we could. The track was very small and very tight, most times were in the 20 second range. We got two runs each day which was good and they said they'd see how the money making went before they figured out what payouts would be. In the end we were able to pay to 5th place for both days which is useful for haul money or to get your entry fees back. Martin took first this time around in his stock Tracker as the course was so tight but Ken was very close behind racing my Super TeeG! I think he's now hooked as the plans to build his own TeeJay are in the works this winter. Here are a few pics of the event. Thanks to Kimmy for being the photographer for the day.
CARSTAIRS - July 2004Even thought there was some grief last year we decided we love the sport too much to give up an signed on to take another crack at organizing the Tuff Truck portion of this years Carstairs Beef and Barley Days. I'm glad we did as it was an outstanding show. We had hoped for two side by side tracks but just didn't have the room to make it more than a 15 second course so we did some revamping and ended up making one large entertaining and challenging course. Jeep Stuff and 4X4 Parts along with the Carstairs Demolition Derby Club would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the participants and volunteers for assisting in the 4th annual Tuff Truck event at the Carstairs Beef and Barley Days. The event was a huge success thanks to the competitors and volunteers for putting on a phenomenal show for the crowd to watch. We would also like to thank our volunteers Andrea, Terry, Christine, Greg, Lisa, Derek, Pigboy, Mark, Courtnee, John and Aaron without them we could NOT have pulled any of the show off. Outstanding job guys!!! This event is hosted each year by the Carstairs Demolition Derby Club which is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. Jeep Stuff became involved in the Tuff Truck end of it last year as our business loves the sport and wanted to become more involved in helping out with local events. All profits made from this one day event go back to the Carstairs Demolition Club to assist in organizing this event each year. This year we also had the Western RV Monster Ride Truck, and $1.00 from every ride went back to the town of Carstairs to build a water park for the community, special thanks to Marvin Anderson, Darryl Aldrich and gang for bringing this outstanding truck to the event. We had around 5,000 fans come to cheer on the 25 trucks and drivers that put on an outstanding show. We would like to thank ALL of our sponsors this year, All Seasons Radiators, J and J Consultants, Folk Automotive, Carstairs Demoltion Club, and Jeep Stuff and 4X4 Parts for each contributing .00 dollars to the prize money paid out making this event that much more awesome! We would also like to thank National 4 Wheel Drive Centre for the generous prizes donated, Total Driveline and Customizing/Cross Eyed Airbrushing for some outstanding hard luck trophies and Carstairs Ford for the Top Time Trophy. The following is the top ten winners in both rounds. Our Tuff Luck Trophies were awarded to Robin Brisebois with the White Knight Truck from Calgary that rolled onto his roof when he went into a corner too fast and Ken Hodgins with the All Juiced Up Jeep from Langdon that did a hard end over end after clearing a rough double jump. The Top Time trophy was awarded to Jimmy Shilson who beat everyone in his stock 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee called the Jeep Stuff Grocery Getter. 1ST ROUND 1 Jimmy Shilson - 97 Grand Cherokee 2 Pete Berreth - 82 Ramcharger 3 Martin Cochrane - 90 Chev Tracker 4 Ken Hodgins - 92 Jeep YJ 5 Lisa Hodgins - 85 Jeep CJ7 6 Chuck Munro - 80 Chev Blazer 7 Jason Olson - "Ford Runner" 8 Jay Lebsack - 85 Dodge D50 9 Bob Grossland - 81 Ford Bronco 10 Patrick Stannard - 92 Dodge Dakota 2ND ROUND 1 Jimmy Shilson - 97 Grand Cherokee 2 Martin Cochrane - 90 Chev Tracker 3 Robert Foster - 89 Ford F250 4 Terry Dunn - 87 Ford F150 5 Lisa Hodgins - 85 Jeep CJ7 6 Terry McDonald - 84 Nissan King Cab 7 Jason Olson - "Ford Runner" 8 Chelsea Berreth - 82 Ramcharger 9 Jay Lebsack - 85 Dodge D50 10 Jay Ruhl - 84 Toyota PU Here are a few pics of the event. Sadly Ken ended the day on his roof and destroyed almost every body panel on his All Juiced Up Jeep. Keep watching for mods this winter though as Ken plans to build a new improved Jeep! Thanks again to everyone!! Special thanks to Lil' Shooter (Brad) for taking some great pictures of the day and allowing us to post them on the Jeep Stuff website!
FOREMOST - June 2004Foremost is one of the better races we participate in as they have a fairly long and challenging course. Saturday morning after a free pancake breakfast we participated in the parade with Tyler and Rex as our float marshalls and then it was off to the rodeo and the races! The jumps were huge and when you landed you felt like you became part of the earth!! Sadly my saggy springs finally let go and with them they took out the shocks and the shock mounts and the brake lines (but hey who needs brakes when your racin'!?) so for the last few go rounds we had to ghetto fab the rear diff from getting too much travel by strapping it down and we clamped off the broken brake lines. It did the trick and got me around the track for a few more laps of woohoo fun and out of the deal I was able to get me some snazzy new 3" lift coil springs for the rear when we got home...mmm nice new ride!! It was an outstanding weeked with all of us doing really well coming home with a fair bit of cash in our pockets but again bowing to Jimmy in the Jeep Stuff Grocery Getter! Here are some of the pics from the day MONSTER JAM - March 5, 6 & 7 2004 Another chilly March weekend and we were down to the "dome" to entertain huge capicity crowds all weekend. Friday night Jimmy showed up with his borrowed "Jeep Stuff Grocery Getter" a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee and kicked some butt pulling off a tight first place finish. Saturday night had my steering binding where I couldn't turn to the left and took down a sono tube but it still qualified me for Sunday. Ken as always in the "All Juiced Up Jeep"pushed to the max and pulled off first place for the day. It was going to be quite a battle on Sunday with Ken vs Jimmy for the Finals. As predicited Ken and Jimmy faced off in the top two to see who would be "King of the Dome" , both boys pushed hard and in the end Ken pushed too hard and spun out on the last corner but to the fans delight finished the course jumping the final jump in reverse. Congrats to Jimmy the big weiner of 2004!! As for me.... well... again I had the steering bind when I came around a left hand corner and I couldn't turn to the right which inevitably put me on top of the Monster Truck crush cars which kinda buggered the Still "Miss" Behavin' Jeep. UPDATE: Finally after a summer of not knowing what was going on with the steering and Ken thinking it was all in my head we found a seized u-joint in the steering shaft and then finally we discovered a body mount had broken and each time I turned to the right the rad jammed into the steering box and prevented the vehicle from turning to the right. Phew...it wasn't my fault!!!
JEEP STUFF JEEPS IN THE NEWS - March 5, 2004 Thursday March 4th was a busy day setting up the Saddledome for the Monster Jam weekend but while we were there Gil Tucker from Global TV asked if he could get some local drivers showing off their stuff and giving a mini interview for the evening news. The next day he showed up with a camera man and got us to show off at Jeep Stuff Acres with some jumps, bumps and donuts along with some silly add lib interviews. The interview and footage turned out awesome and we were given a good 4 1/2 minutes of exposure!
PRE RACE SEASON STUFF - Jan & Feb 2004 2004 isn't starting off the best for our tuff trucks. After destroying the engine in the cold last year at the Monster Jam in the Still Miss Behavin Jeep, we decided to scrap the high performance idea and drop in a stock 1997 Chev 5.7 Vortec engine. Sadly this one ran almost as poorly as the old engine so after putting a new computer, throttle body etc we took out all the wiring and installed all new wiring harnesses. That cleared up one problem but then new problems started right away. After scratching our heads for the last few weeks and not knowing why she's back firing through the intake and the headers we have agreed that there is something internally wrong with the new engine as we can all hear it making a racket from inside. Now the big decision, buy another 97 + up Chev for the Vortec, strip this one down and fix it, put an older rollerized 350 in and I even heard "lets throw that fuel injected 454 that we have out in the yard in". For now the plan is to do an UN-install, rethink a plan and go back to the drawing board. Luckily Super Tee-G is hanging out as my back up racer if needed, we always have a good time flying through the air together so if we can't get the CJ figured the TJ will get a few mods and step in for the Monster Jam. Ken's Jeep is another grief story. After a great season last year he climbed underneath and heard that the ol' 302 couldn't take his RMPing and the bottom end was making some not-so-good noises. Out she came with big plans to get a newer rollerized engine from Western Core rebuilt at Hole Shot. Time has now become an issue as we have 1 month left and two very sad broken Jeeps, we may be hunting for a replacement stock 302 engine for All Juiced Up for the Monster Jam! While the engine was out, our friends at Dominion Automatic Transmission said they'd be able to strenghten up the baby C-6 for us. We have also purchased a 2,500 stall torque converter for it as well. At least some of our plan is coming together - thanks Gary, Jim and staff at Dominion for your hard work! We have both decided to drop down in tire size after how much I loved racing Super Tee-G last year with the 32" Goodyear MTR's. I have bolted on some 31 MTR's and Ken has found some 33's. The only other mods we are doing to the Jeeps is a bit of artwork. I decided to try some airbrushing under the hood (just in case I sucked then no-one would really see it!) so after a few hours I came up with a simple design to promote the business, its not much and the more I look at it the more I dislike it but what the heck I put the time in so here's a pic of it.
Ken plans to put the extended fender flares on his Jeep like my Aqua Miss Behavin Too Jeep so there are some airbrush plans for his Jeep too. Its a little nerve racking for this novice airbrusher but what the heck we can always paint over top if we don't like it, right?! That would be in all our spare time! Then when that is done I'd like to airbrush a helmet for him, I have the design and the paint for it I just need to convince the cheapskate to let me buy a new helmet as his current one is going to DOT expire soon. He has also been unhappy with the All Juiced Up stickers on his hood as no-one could read it from a distance so I added some pizzaz to them also. I can't wait for racing season to get underway so that I can have my family room back and get a bright yellow and bright orange hood out of it! We'll keep you posted as to how the battle goes in the preparation for this year's Monster Jam show and if I throw in the airbrush and paintbrush!
UPDATE - the engine was pulled and stripped down today, seems the guy at the parts store sold us spark plugs for an old 350 engine and they were too short to reach into the cylinders. Wow what a lot of work for nothing!!

2003 RACE REVIEWS
CARSTAIRS - July 20, 2003 This year Ken and I decided we wanted to get involved in the Carstairs Demo and Tuff Truck at the Beef and Barley Days weekend. We had hoped to do side by side tracks so that two competitors got to have a bit of a taste of side by side racing without having to share the track, unfortunately the ground was too wet and each time the loader tried to move to the area of the second track he would sink. So the idea was scrapped with the hopes that in 2004 there would be some clean fill added into the area so it could be built up and made into a second track. There was lots of prep time inviting racers, soliciting sponsors, cutting grass, building the crowd favorite mud bog and some additional big jumps. We had an outstanding turn out of competitors and fans! The first few racers had a hard time getting through the mud but each time the next guy made it a bit further till soon all the 4 wheel drives were making it through. Mud makes for an interesting mix in competition as it is always changing. As Still Miss Behavin was still busted I raced Super Tee-G again and had fun with it, my mind was on the show instead of racing and that reflected in my performance as I overshot a critical jump but had good air for pictures, mind you I think the TJ's of the show had the best air! I have to admit its hard to compete in a show that you are trying to organize - thank goodness for volunteers! Ken had some good times as well and placed both times. For the most part it was an awesome day with just one hiccup but that's racing I guess! Sadly I was unable to take any pictures but next year I will have a volunteer camera person! Jeep Stuff and 4X4 Parts along with the Carstairs Demolition Derby Club would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all that participated in the 3rd annual Tuff Truck event at the Carstairs Beef & Barley Days. 32 trucks and drivers put on an outstanding show for the fans to enjoy. We would like to thank ALL of our sponsors Federal Metals, Steve's Ford Parts, Triple T Auto Tire & 4X4 Parts, Total Driveline and Customizing, Modern Motors and Jeep Stuff and 4X4 Parts for each contributing $ 250.00 dollars to the prize money paid out making this event that much more awesome! We would also like to thank National 4 Wheel Drive Centre for the generous door prizes donated, Kris Richelhoff for the making of our Crowd Pleaser and Tuff Luck Tuff Tuck trophies, and Cam Clark Ford in Airdrie for the Top Time Trophy. A huge thank you also to our volunteers Kimmy, Christine, Corey, Terry, Andrea, Mark, Dwayne and Lisa from Greenwood AB without them we would have had no times, no staging, no-one top hook up the muddy chain and total pandemonium! In total we paid out $ 3,620.00 in prize money. The following is the top ten winners in both rounds. Our Tuff Luck Trophy was awarded to Jon Hollingsworth from Foremost Alberta, the Top Time Trophy to Terry Dunn of Calgary and the Crowd Pleaser Trophy went to Joe Polito from Calgary that braved our course in reverse due to pinion breakage. |

FOREMOST - June 2003 Well after the bad luck we had at the Monster Jam we decided we'd give it another shot and head to Foremost for the weekend. It had been raining cats and dogs all week so we decided to wait till Saturday to head down as the show had been cancelled the prior year due to rain. Of course we waited till a few days before the show to start fixing the racers so you can just imagine where that left us. Ken's was an easy fix, he just needed a new water pump. Mine was a different story. Seemed no matter what we did to Still "Miss" Behavin' she would not run. We spent hours changing this and that... a new computer, taking the fuel injection off and trying a carberator. Nothing was working, she'd run for a bit really really rich with no power then die. The final boot through the field there was a mess of blue smoke and she lost oil pressure. Seems the cold weather at the Monster Jam had a worse affect on her than we originally thought. Off to the corner where she was parked as we didn't have enough time to swap a new engine in as it was already 5pm on Friday night. I really wanted to race as there weren't many races in the 2003 season so I asked Ken if I could bring my new 1997 Jeep TJ. We checked with the tech guys to make sure she would pass tech, equipped her with what she needed and loaded her on the trailer to go to the races. Jimmy and his orange banana, Joe and his purple hellraiser, Ken and All Juiced upand me in my stock TJ headed south to races Saturday at 6 am. I have to admit, I was not sure how the TJ would do as I had only ever raced a high performance V8 engine with big tires, so 4 cylinders and 32's was gonna be a bit different. I pulled up to the line and took off with a wee bit of hesitation, remember it is my daily driver, I hit the first jump and landed with no rattling of my brain. I was shocked! I have never landed so softly in all my years of racing. That was it! No more easing around the track just out for fun, this baby hooked up and landed like a limo so I put the hammer down and let her rip to see if I could kick some boy butt. Amazingly enough I was able to pull off third place, sure wish I would have not eased into the first part of the course. I was gonna show the boys that laughed at me driving my grocery getter that the TJ was gonna kick some butt. Well afterall, its driver ability right?! Next turn out I was filled with confidence and not sore from my first crack at it so I gave 'er with all we had and this time got first place. We were rocking! Jimmy too was having a ball and showing us the banana could make it around the course without breaking. He managed to complete the course and had a good time too. Joe had a really good run going but then quickly showed us that it is possible to roll with front wheel drive only. What a shame, but some fellow racers were able to scrounge up some parts for him so he could race again on Sunday. Ken was having a great day too and was able to place in the top 5 but he was no match for the little TJ. Day two came and we were ready for another day of fun filled racing. The weather was looking pretty ominus and the one time I was strapped in my Jeep I looked up and saw small funel clouds in the sky. The first run was awesome for the TJ which was now being called Super Tee-G, I was able to pull off another first place. Jimmy was again having another a great day with no breakage. But when it came to Ken he was not so lucky. He pulled up to the line and looked like he was off to a good run, determined not to let his wife beat him again. Unfortunately the Jeep had other plans and as soon as he left the line you could see the rear passenger side axle start to sneak its way out of the axle tube. By the time he cleared the first jump the axle had worked its way out completely and bounced towards the announcer. But our Ken figured he just had a flat and was not gonna let that get in his way of a good run. Little did he know he was missing an axle for the whole run but he plunged on bouncing through, not over the jumps. The most impressive part was when he had only the three wheels digging through the mud, outstanding how much mud he flung! He ended up with the crowd pleaser trophy! By the time my second turn came around it was pretty much down pouring. I was battling with Foremost racer Tom Simanton for the big trophy. Sadly a mistake on my part almost sent me into a 360 spin around the first tire but I got it under control and had to bow to Tom and take second place. All in all it was a great weekend and I loved my new TJ even more.
MONSTER JAM - March 2003 This was probably one of the worst weekends we have had for cold all year and for all our time racing this event. Racing in the inclement weather conditions is much to be desired. Two days prior to the event all Still "Miss" Behavin's fuel lines froze up and took out the fuel pump at the same time. The cap on the fuel cell snapped which set us back another ...wow racing is not for the poor. We swapped in another fuel pump that we were told would be similar well the outcome of this story will tell otherwise.... Friday afternoon we bundled up as much as possible and headed to the dome. The racers spent the afternoon outside, some with heaters or tiger torches under them trying to keep everything warm. When its that cold one wrong jump could snap a frosty axle like nothing. After last years fogging of the windshields we decided to use some defogger on the glass. Seems that didn't work worth a damn, a heater was the only way to go and I kinda didn't have one. After some scrapping and shivering and a test and tune that had Still "Miss" Behavin' spittering and sputtering we unhooked the map sensor hopping to get enough fuel for the competition. In the end though, the cold won as my turn came and I couldn't get her above 3,000 rmp, I felt like I could have run the course on foot faster. We still aren't sure what happened, whether sensors were failing in the fuel injection system or that new pump was just not adequate for the engine. Either way I came in second last and did not qualify for Sunday...the first time ever. We weren't too sad about it though as neither me or the Jeep perform well inthe cold and I would rather be a spectator than outside shivering waiting for a turn! Saturday came and it was Ken's turn, these guys had it made they got to stay inside for the pit party all afternoon so their Race Cars were all nice and warm. Ken ran a good time but not good enough to win, he did qualify for Sunday though. Sunday came and the weather was still nasty but at least we had daylight. All Juiced Up started leaking from the water pump but it was just too cold to change it so Ken took a chance. Ken was running great and came back for the finals determined to win. Sadly the Jeep did not co-operate and the engine heat seized. His turn came and went and he sat in the corner waiting to be towed out. Of course by the time the tow truck came the engine had cooled enough that he drove it out. It wasn't a great start to the season for the Jeep Stuff Racing Team Jeeps but its just the beginning and we anticipate many warn days to keep the Jeeps happy. Here are a few pics I snapped of the show over the weekend, amazing what you can do when you don't have to race!
RACE HELMET - March 2003 Okay so its not a race story but it has to do with my race helmet. Special thanks to our buddy blake also known as Cross-Eyed for turning my boring white racing helmet into a work of art! His extraordinary art work appears on Calgary Flames Hockey Masks and Monster trucks to name just a few and now our helmet! He put the Jeep Stuff and 4X4 Parts name on the front and the Still "Miss" Behavin' Jeep on one side and the All Juiced Up Jeep on the other side. TEST N' TUNE - February 23, 2003 Each year before the Monster Jam at the dome the racers all like to get together to test and tune our vehicles to make sure they are gonna hold together for the big performance. Last year we had a bunch of trucks and drivers out playing and we decided to volunteer the land for it once again, we have even built some permanent jumps, soon there will be a real track...this I am sure of! It was darn cold, which figures but Ken with All Juiced Up, Jamie with his Zebra and Joe with his YJ5 decided they'd give it a whirl. Still "Miss" Behavin' suffered some technical difficulties and needs a new fuel pump so I was able to capture the boys in action on film instead of bashing around in the snow. Jamie was first to give it a try and headed for the first jump full tilt, he kind of overshot it and after a rough landing needed to pick up his grill and find two more rims and tires as he had bent and flattened them pretty good. But once he got new tires and rims bolted back on he was able to show us some Bronco Jumping power. Nice paint job Jamie, I really like the back hatch.... Next came Ken and he kept her together to make a few rounds. He was experiencing some alternator problems but that's why we test 'em first so that we can work the bugs out! Seems I can never be ready for Ken's big air pictures! Joe did a total rebuild this year on his 1956 Jeep YJ5, yep its a CJ5 with a YJ front clip, if you open the hood you'll note the orange paint that matches the All Juiced Up Jeep. Lets hope the front clip stays shiney side up for Joe as it's Ken's front clip from last years flop! The Jeep looks great Joe and the only problems he had was the last landing the front drive shaft pretzled, again the ol' test n' tune helped work out Joe's bugs! A good chilly time was had by all! This year you can see these and many more Tuff Trucks at the Monster Jam Show March 7, 8 and 9th!
2002 RACE REVIEWS
HELL ON WHEELS - September 21 & 22, 2002
This year we ventured down to Medicine Hat to check out the Hell on Wheels production organized by a few fellas calling themselves Redneck Productions. We figured this was the last race of the year and we had missed going to a bunch of shows during our busy 2002 year, so of we went. The show included a demo derby, tuff truck competition and lawn tractors. We arrived late Saturday afternoon and registered for the evening show, it was bitterly cold. The track was interesting, with some inverted whoops off the start line, a full sized van buried in a jump (that would be what....6 feet tall?) with three jumps right after the van that were spaced so that they could not be made together, you had to bash your way through them individually. After that we had to go to the center of the arena and do a donut around a barrel which was 1 and 3/4 turns then back through the three jumps, over the van, over the whoops and over a jump that had a huge hole dug on the other side that was filled with mud and water, then the last obstacle was a 5 foot death jump with no landing ramp on the decline. It looked interesting, we couldn't wait to buckle up and give it a try, that's when we found out that cars were going to be competing. For anyone that's sunk tones of money into their tuff truck and gone to a show to find someone there with a little tercel that they put into that is capable of walking all over ya, it sucks. Had we have known we wouldn't have gone as most cars are unbeatable, I'd beat a car worse than my precious Jeep for sure! Since we had driven the 2 and 1/2 hours to the Hat we decided to give it a shot anyways because the mud bog would hopefully even the playing field. 7 o'clock came and it was show time, with a "lets get ready to crumble" the demo dudes beat each others cars till only one remained. Next came the tuff trucks/cars - 14 entries total. The first few competitors were of the car or 2wd variety and when they jumped the pit but landed right smack dab in the goo and went no more unless they were on foot. It looked painful going from GO to WHOA just like that! Next came the RamTuff truck who damn near cleared the mud pit, that little dodge has a few good ponies under the hood, sadly he fell off the side of the death jump prior to crossing the finish line (by maybe a foot) and couldn't get out to run for fear of the truck rolling so he took a DNF. Then came Ken's turn, he had an awesome run going and when it came his turn to do the pit he landed in it and sure did make a mess throwing goo everywhere, it was virgin mud as he was the first to go through it completely, gotta love racing with 35" boggers! My strategy was to continue on like the boys did as it was combined time not best of both, we had to hold her together and be consistent for two runs. I lit it up, racing around the track (the van wasn't as bad as I thought it would be), then came the mud jump, I hit it hard in hopes of getting 3/4's of the way over the goo, while I was in the air I looked down and there wasn't much mud left and, wow was there ever a huge gaping upwards sloped hole to land in - ouch! Down I came and goo flew everywhere, I too am happy I race with 36" Swampers as I chewed my way out! Before our second run there was a small meeting of officials and drivers, seems the cars didn't like the goo and the show organizers were tired of towing some of the competitors out of the mud pit. So the decision was made to cater to the 2wd competitors and change the track to have the competitors drive around the mud obstacle...that sucked, so much for the even playing field! Ken had the lead after the first heat with me right behind, next time out I beat him but as it was combined time he took first and I settled for second for the Saturday performance, yes the car did beat us both but his first time combined with his second was not enough to take away the 1st or 2nd place finish. We had splurged for a room with a Jacuzzi suite and a hotel with a waterslide so we looked forward to heading to the room for some food and Rn'R...it was awesome. It would have been a great honeymoon suite for us but we had short stuff with us so we skipped on celebrating maybe one day we'll get away for our honeymoon without the children! The next day we needed to do some work on the All Juiced Up Jeep as the air pump had seized and was chewing up the belt. Ken didn't want to turn donuts with manual steering . 15 minutes before the race we had eliminated the pump and installed a shorter belt, ready to rock again. Sadly the weather was not on our side for this performance either, it was freezing cold with the odd rain sprinkle, there were a few more fans in the stands but not many. This time the mud pit had been totally filled in with dirt, the death jump was shortened and the donut around the barrel had become a figure eight around two barrels...wow were the front wheel drive cars gonna do well! Out we went, Ken had a killer time, I came off the line with Still "Miss" Behavin' just a rockin', over the whoops and I forgot to let off as I climbed the van jump... up, up, up and away I was heading for the moon, when all of a sudden gravity kicked in and down I headed, there was no ramp under me it was now way behind me, I kinda overshot it and was heading for the fence, into the bank and almost over the first of the triple jumps, only a couple of wheels hit that obstacle so I was penalized 5 seconds. I hit so hard that my air breather assembly bent forward into the fan and was jammed up against the throttle cable, making me have to ride the brake peddle for the last part of the course as the Jeep was almost maxed out in speed and I couldn't slow her down - phew what a ride that was! The next time out Ken did great but not fast enough to beat the car, I took it a bit easier this time and skipped the rocket launch move, the 5 second penalty had put me out of the money for sure so I just kept it together to be able to partake in the freestyle portion of the show. Ken took the second place trophy and cash and I ended up in forth which was just out of the money for the day. And yes the little car took first! The last part of the show was opened up to ALL competitors to try their hand at the track for 2 minutes of freestyle. A couple of guys went out and ripped 'er up, one guy tried and tried until finally he flopped his pickup on its side. Next came the demo cars, they too tried to smash, spin and roll, the last demo car out died and was left next to the van and became fair game and part of the track. Ken didn't hold back and climbed up the side of the demo car and the van, once at the top he kinda got stuck, he teetered and tottered and spun and and dug and finally got free and was able to rip up and show off his All Juiced Up Jeep, he even backed into the mud pit and tried to roost the crowd but the mud was too thick. He did great...the crowd went wild. Next came my turn, I was pumped, I had an idea that no-one had tried yet. I ripped over the mud pit, did a donut, jumped the van, tried to climb the demo car, but realized that a posi in the front was required, then I headed back to the jump and mud pit. This time I faced the other direction, got her lined up threw her into reverse and jumped the pit backwards then hit it the opposite way, definitely a different feeling doing a jump when you can't see where you are going and where you'll land! Then came my finale, I lined up with the mud pit jump and death jump just 20 feet beyond. I stopped, revved her up, pumped up the crowd and hit the mud jump full trottle and then over the death jump peddal still to the floor...damn what a hard landing...took out my transmission, blew off all the belts when the engine hit the diff and bent the crap outta my front and rear diffs and a few body panels. At this time I graciously bowed out and waved to the crowd. It was awesome, mind you my body disagrees the day after, as my head feels like its 100 pounds on those over stretched neck muscles! I'd rate my freestyle a 2, that rating is based on how many Tylenol 3's its taking to get through the day after! The crowd loved it though! Now we have the whole winter to fix the Jeeps up, Ken's is still good but his is still new as he just built it this year. Mine on the other hand has been beaten for the last couple of years and the rear 9 inch diff has been bending at each show, the death jump at this show definitely has made it so that we have to replace it, all 4 four of my tires have a nasty inwards lean on the top side now. I guess we also have to put another tranny in, good thing we fabbed her up to fit car tranny's - much cheaper! Sadly with the two of us driving I did not get any pictures, if anyone did and would like to share them with our website we'd be thrilled to put them up and give you credit for them. Until next year....
LETHBRIDGE - July 26 & 27, 2002 Thursday evening we picked up our additional pit crew member Christine and headed for Jeep Stuff acres to get the Jeeps ready and loaded for the Friday/Saturday evening shows. At 2 am we still had no idea what was wrong with Ken's "All Juiced Up" Jeep and Ken had almost ran over Chrisitne who had snuck outside to relieve herself of some Smirnoff Ice so we gave up and hit the sack. We loaded up the Jeeps and headed for Lethbridge first thing in the morning hoping Ken could score some new parts and fix it during the day while I did an upgrade at a client site. By 4:30 Ken was smiling and said the Jeep was running good again after a new set of plugs were installed. Friday night came and Ken took 2nd in the first run but when it came time for his second run the Jeep started spittering and sputtering again which bumped him into 4th as many more good runs followed....like mine! It was best of both runs that got you in the money. The course was rough and from where we were sitting waiting our turns all we could see was front bumper, rear bumper and hear the crowd groan as the vehicles hit the jumps and the bumps and had to get pulled off as they broke. I decided to back off the throttle a bit to see if I could get more finesse which can be an advantage at certain times and was successful as I took first place, that was until the "Rambuncious" Ram Charger and Chris showed us what that truck was made of. He definetly deserved the win and I tip my helmet to him and settled for the 2nd place finish overall Friday night. Just after we finished our portion of the show the sky opened up and the 6 monster trucks had to show us what freestyle was all about in the pouring and I mean pouring rain. After the show we took our wet selves back to the room to enjoy some cocktails and drown Claytons sorrows as his Toyota kinda broke a wee bit. After almost being thrown out of the hotel, having an ice fight, pizza party and all sorts of abuse from the gal that kicked the boys butts we enjoyed a couple and I mean only a couple of hours of sleep. The next day Don told us a few of the Monster truck drivers were trying to get us bumped up to the honeymoon suite - woohoo could we have had fun there - they probably would have had some kind of bubbly tub! Good thing it was booked or we may have been escorted from the city! But thanks for the thought guys! What a fun little party we had. The next day we were back at it trying to see what was making Ken's Jeep act up again and fix Clayton's steering and front end. Christine and I did numerous parts runs and even found a few minutes to score some "Little Princess" stickers for our Ramp Princess Clayton to put on his Toyota. Clayton's toy came back together very well but Ken's on the other hand was not co-operating. We tried brand new wires, plugs, a fuel pressure regulator, unplugging censors, even a different computer. 5 minutes before the races started, Ken on a last hope chance ran a wire from the computer to the battery and violla she ran like a charm. Seems the computer wasn't grounded out properly. Phew! Well Ken went out and had a great run, good enough to put him in first place until the yellow Jeep and I showed him that Canadian girls really do kick ass and took 1st! Next came the second round and I was first up, another clean run and I had beaten my first time so was still in the lead. Then came Ken who tried with all his might but couldn't beat me and had to settle for 2nd and a hell of a stiff neck as he kinda bounced through the doubles. Clayton did some great jumps and managed to keep the Toy together and complete both rounds - way to go Princess! When it was all said and done I held onto the 1st place and Ken 2nd. Clayton became the Lethbridge crowd favorite as he backed up for every jump and took a run at them - I was almost impressed (just kidding Clayton!). Saturday we grabbed another room as we were really exhausted, but were much more mellow and in fact were all asleep within minutes of climbing into bed. Sunday came, we did breakfast and headed for home bucks richer, me with a swollen head thanks to my ego, and two tired but intact kick ass Jeeps. Another awesome weekend! Special thanks to Terry Clement for all the awesome photos that accompany this write up. I haven't had a chance to download mine from the camera yet so once I do I'm sure I'll have more! Oh and Clayton I don't have any pictures of you yet that's why your Twisted Ramp Princess isn't included here!
CARSTAIRS - July 21, 2002
Last year we attended this event put on by the Carstairs Demolition Association and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, even though it poured rain. It was their first year for tuff trucks as this is usually just a big demolition derby meet. Well this year was another great success, luckily the weather was nice for us too. The track was the same as last year, but the mud bog was filled with water and that caused a lot of problems for some of the racers. They said next year they'd have more mud less water! Ken and I decided to swap Jeeps so I could see how the All Juiced Up Jeep performed. I pulled first and wouldn't you know it but I couldn't get the Jeep to run for me at all. It kept spitting and sputtering and in the end just died. Ken of course had an awesome run in the Still "Miss" Behavin' Jeep and walked away with first place in the first round. Sadly our buddy Clayton broke some steering components and was out of the race and facing lots of work to get ready for the Lethbridge show the following weekend. As more cars crashed and smashed during another demo heat we tried to figure out what was causing all the problems with the orange Jeep. No matter what we tried, she wouldn't run, but we figured what the heck we were there for fun so I brought her out again and sputtered around the track till she finally died in the middle of the water hole. I had to bite the bullet and jump in to hook myself up so I found out first hand how deep and cold the water actually was. Ken of course went out for his second run and kicked butt again and finished in first place AGAIN! He was able to take home a few bucks and a great trophy. The fun didn't stop there as we received word that the Carstairs Demo Assoc. have a wrap up party after the races and they wanted us to come and enjoy a free steak dinner. Woohoo! Off to Carstairs we went on August 10 where we found an awesome grill in the middle of the bar, where we got to pick and cook a great steak, there were also baked potatoes all cooked and garlic bread, it was an amazing meal. After dinner we enjoyed quite a few cocktails, shooters complements of the Carstairs boys and a whole lot of razzing and teasing by all the racers that attended. A great time was had by all, thank you to the Carstairs Demolition Association for hosting the race and the very awesome steak dinner. Can't wait to see ya next time (with my own Jeep of course)!
MONSTER JAM - February 22, 23, 24, 2002 After endless evenings and weekends trying to get both the Still "Miss" Behavin' and All Juiced Up Jeeps ready for the races we managed to get it all dialed in but were dead tired from all the work involved. Friday's performance proved to be a bit rough, after all trucks failing tech due to no firewalls we were allowed to run as the show had to go on! Clayton Kraatz and his amazing beast unfortunately were not but they did allow for an exhibition run so he could show off his handy work. Jamie Lassiter was leaving tech and the transmission went in his Blazer. So off he went to Folk Automotive to start removal while Jimmy Shilson head to the Jeep Stuff Acres to take my spare and drop in before the race. With only 5 minutes to spare the Blazer was back and ready to rock! This year the format for the Tuff Trucks was different, the first run was the qualifying run for the finals on Sunday. The top eight not only were guaranteed a spot for Sunday but they moved on to the next round which was for day money and trophies, the top two from there moved on to a fight for top dog! The start line was a little close to the doubles, we had 10 feet to clear a 10 feet jump, not many were successful and got bucked around pretty good. I tried to stand the Jeep up on its tailgate then on its nose, at one point I was sure I was going over but managed to tromp on the gas and bring the back end down and keep the shiny side up! Jamie with his new transmission didn't make it over the doubles, in fact he stopped dead in the send jump and said goodbye to both driveshafts. After round one I was lucky enough to hold 4th place which wasn't bad considering I spent a lot of time bucking up and down in the air! Congrats to Terry McDonald who took the first place finish, Calvin Ashmore who settled for second and Cory Watt who had a wee bit of a grudge match with me after settling for second last year to my first was very pleased to say "he beat Lisa" and took third place leaving me in 4th. Saturday was a bit freakish. After a very busy pit party everyone went for their practice run to discover that if you had a windshield half way through the course you wouldn't be able to see through the fog - very scary. The decision was then made that we would stage inside the dome for our races rather than the tunnel. Ken did his test run and the Jeep stalled twice and the bottom end of the engine went. We did a bit of adjusting and decided to run it anyways as it was probably just a rod. He did well, taking 2nd in the first heat, 2nd in the second heat and 2nd overall, Ralph from Lenco Automotive was untouchable! Ken didn't figure the engine would last one round let alone 3 so we figured we'd add a little 15/40 and run it again on the Sunday. Sunday came and being as cold as it was we were staged again in the dome. This was fine until Ken and the brand new "All Juiced Up" Jeep came bouncing over the jump after the tank traps and did an endo right in front of me. Talk about putting me off my game even though Ken was out and walking around I didn't know if he was hurt and how bad the jeep was damaged! I should have just driven out of the stadium at that stage as my mind was far from racing but I pressed on. They had backed the start line up 5 feet on the Saturday night as so many people weren't clearing the jumps but my back tires still caught the top of the jump and I did a bit of bucking, not so bad this time but enough to knock the shifter out of 2nd and into neutral, but I probably didn't notice as all I heard was a huge crack from my neck. By the time I headed in to the first corner I realized I was not moving very fast as I was no longer in gear - that was a mistake that cost me big time as I didn't qualify for the finals. As I wasn't going fast enough when I went into the tank traps I hit hard enough to hear 2 more neck cracks and lose the feeling in both arms. I managed to hit the jump that Ken flipped on and make the corner but I was not fast enough to qualify. But hey I gotta let the boys have a crack at the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies every now and then too! In case you are wondering Ken's okay, the Jeep needs the front of the cage to be rebuilt as it buckled a bit (but hey it did its job!), we also need a drivers fender, hood, fix the cracks in the hood scoop, fix the dent in the tub under the passenger door and a tweek in the passenger fender. So the front will be getting repainted and re-stickered - again - and lets not forget we need to rebuild the bottom end of the engine - sigh! As for me, my jaw has been slightly dislocated and I have some nasty whiplash, but that's the name of the game - I'm still not sure how Ken rolled and is okay and I didn't but am in worse shape. Nothing appears to be broken on my Jeep just a few more bends in the body but those add character! Here's a couple of pics, I hope to have mine downloaded in the next few days. Thanks to Theresa Huarte and Erik Hansen for the use of these pics, if anyone has any please send them to me as I'd love to have them not only for the web but for the scrapbook!. Ready, Set, Go!!!

Ah made it across the finish line

As you can see Ken didn't keep the shiney side up!

Okay so I bounced pretty good over the first jump, but I am landing with tires on the ground unlike the other Jeep Stuff Racing Team member! Pssst...Ken....It goes fast on the wheels!

Speedy Ken ripping around the track

Here's Dave Gallant and his Chev S10

Another pic of Ken and All Juiced Up, before she got squeezed!

Here's Kirby and his Ford Ranger getting a bit of sick air

Ah the Modern Truck - it can fly!

Here's Rocket Rodney's Bronco driven by Scott Hey Scott drive it like you borrowed it!! Oh you did borrow it!

And our Weekend Weiner - I mean winner Tery McDonald !!! Congrats Terry
TEST N' TUNE - February 10, 2002 A bunch of us got together on Sunday the 10th to test out our Tuff Trucks to see how they would hold together before the big Monster Jam race coming up February 22, 23, and 24th. A good time was had by all except Marty who may disagree as he flopped his Nissan on its side! Luckily no-one was hurt and back over he went and had another crack at the course! Unfortunately the Still "Miss" Behavin' Jeep sustained some damage that we didn't notice till Monday of the Family Day long weekend, just days before the big competition. The newly installed transfer case took a few too many hard hits in the dugout and had about 5 cracks in her and the adapter also broke. Back into the garage to have another t-case and adapter installed but this time she actually got a long overdue skid plate! Here's a couple of pics of the boyz with their toys and me too! Okay boys, let's try this for an obstacle Sometimes I egg them on...you know if the girl can do it.. then the boys have to follow suit so they don't get shown up!

Here's Terry trying out the dugout

Now Cal's turn

Hit it Hammer....

Go team Modern!

Darn its gettin muddy out here

Oops...Marty she goes faster when she's not on her side

2001 RACE REVIEWS
GROUND POUNDER DAZE - August 4,5,6, 2001
This year Ken and I were very busy and only were able to take in one night and one day at the Ground Pounder Daze Event. We went for the Sunday to compete in the Obstacle course and even though she was rough and two minutes long we managed to pull off women's top time and men's top time. We had an awesome time as always and drank far too many Mike's (thanks Dean, you got me in trouble again )
CARSTAIRS TUFF TRUCK - July 22, 2001 We took the Still "Miss" Behavin' Jeep to Carstairs on a rainy miserable Sunday to play with other tuff trucks. They were having their annual demo derby and decided to add some more excitement to the show by including a Tuff Truck Event. Unfortunately we only had 6 competitors and 5 trucks so it made for just a taste of Tuff Trucks for the spectators. The course was around 40 seconds long, with a variety of obstacles for us that included a set of triples, a buried car, table top, turtle backs and a 50 foot mud pit at the end. Luckily we had been warned of the pit so I brought our trusty rain suit. My first crack through the pit saw a wall of goo about 25 feet high and about half of it on me and in the Jeep. The first pass was fun and the second pass was hilarious as it had down-poured between the two competitions and the track was extremely slick. People were hitting the obstacles sideways and flinging mud everywhere, that is the ones that made it over the first set of triples! When I passed through the bog I went from one side to the other and back again only to do a 360 degree turn at the end and headed for the timekeeper. Many laughs were had and I'll never forget the look on Terry's face when a wild woman covered in mud was heading for him in a high powered yellow - I mean mud colored Jeep and he had to sprint to get out of the way. This competition was winner takes all and a fancy trophy. Our winner was Ken with me closely behind. Congrats - I'll catch ya sooner or later Kenny boy!
FOREMOST TUFF TRUCK - June 9 - 10, 2001 The Tuff Truck competition at Foremost was an absolute hoot. We pulled into town on Saturday morning and went down main street in search of the rodeo grounds, strangely enough the whole town was sitting on the curbs of main street. Love that small town hospitality - we had a welcoming committee. Just kidding, we somehow or another became pre-parade material, but it was fun for a laugh driving down main street and having everyone wave at us! There were a bunch of locals competing and a couple of fellas from Medicine Hat. From Calgary we had Dean Folk from Folk Automotive, Dave Gallant from Triple T in Okotoks with his sidekick Charlie Mailman, Clayton Kraatz brought his Toy with 42's and super customized suspension, Calvin Ashmore and his Ford Truck, of course Ken and I with the Still "Miss" Behavin' Jeep and the cheering squad/pit crew and professional beer-drinkers Jeff and John Boy. The races started at 1:30 and we had 14 trucks to play with. The track was nasty, lots of whoops, turtle backs, corners and unmakable jumps - but we all tried to clear them. For the second pass, the organizers decided they should make the double jump a bit more do-able or there would be no trucks left for Sunday's show. I took a 5th and a 7th which was in the money for both performances. It was a much better course but it was dusty and very windy and hard for the drivers to see where they were going. The next day there were some different drivers and also some drivers that weren't able to play as their rides were much too broken. So we started off with 14 trucks again, wow talk about carnage! It was Ken's turn to drive the Jeep and with my assistance in the pre-walk of the course telling him where to hit the jumps he was able to get first place on his first pass. The second try he tried too hard and ended up with a 4th but he put on one heck of a show. Pics to be posted once I get them scanned.
STREET WARRIORS - March 9, 10, 11, 2001 Well the Street Warrior competition came and went on March 9, 10, and 11 at the Pengrowth Saddledome. All I can say is, wow what a weekend! The little Jeep just wouldn't give up. All the drivers were awesome, everyone just gets better and better each year and the trucks looked outstanding! This year I was the only Lady to compete in the Street Warrior Competition, in fact the only woman competitor of the show so I had many female fans there to cheer me on. Friday night I pulled 12th starting position and it was a rough ride! It wasn't the best run I have had with Still "Miss" Behavin' but it was enough for a first place trophy and to qualify me for the finals. Ken drove the Jeep on Saturday night and was heading for what looked like a winning run and at the last corner blew the power steering belt and had a heck of a time turning those 36's by hand and ended up with the 2nd. Outstanding job Ken! Sunday was the best show I have been to, it was the finals for all the events! As both Ken and I qualified in the same vehicle, only one of us could run. Ken insisted on me driving as it is my Jeep. I had the 1st for all of 3 minutes and a friend of ours from Edmonton that we race with frequently, stole it away (good job Robert you definitely earned it!). So I ended up with the 2nd place finish. I can't complain as the ol' yeller Jeep gave me a 1st and 2nd place trophy and Ken a 2nd place trophy and ended up putting a few bucks in our pocket this weekend. All we had to replace was a $ 3.99 power steering pulley and a $ 7.00 belt! For those of you that missed the Sunday show the Monsters did the best job I have ever seen in our Dome. Our venue is too small for them to open up the throttle and really put on a show but when they brought the school bus in for them to jump I knew we were gonna be entertained! All I can say was WOOOOOW! What a show - great finish to the weekend. If you are interested in a full show overview check out the U.S. Hot Rod Association Website at www.ushra.com Thanks to everyone that came out, without the fans there wouldn't be a show!

My strategy was to continue on like the boys did as it was combined ti |
