2009 OFF-ROADING ADVENTURES

Thanksgiving Long Weekend - Waiparous - October 2009

Snow, snow and more snow didn't prevent us from heading to Waiparous to enjoy some trails and the  Rocky Mountain Big Wheels annual Turkey Potluck dinner. Trailers froze, a few breakages occured as you will see our trail fix in the photos below, and an awesome feast was had by all.  The hills were deep with snow and slick with ice and some "radical" driving was performed to get to our destinations which made for a lot of laughs.

Rubi and Ain't "Miss" Behavin' en route to the falls!

Susan riding Kimmy's Quad for the day, only the youngsters are silly enough to brave this kind of weather!

Shawn in the Scout making the hairpin ledge turn to the falls!

Dalas and Ain't "Miss" Behavin' posing for a photo!

The Falls in the process of freezing, kind of like us!

Rubi posing for a photo at the falls!

Dalas getting ready to give stuck Ken in his stock Chev a tug, with Greg's supervision!

Dalas cresting one of the many icy hills we climbed!

Flexing the TJ

Tyler following along and making a splash in life!

This was one of the hills we had to hit with speed... lots of speed but we made it!

Some trails had ice form on the holes and most of them we fell through, Greg is cutting trail here!

Oops Rubi and I had a mishap, we didn't make it over a stump and got pulled back off the trail!

Hook up to pull forward and back onto the trail.

Ready, set...... GO!

After winching like crazy to get up this nasty washed out hill, Greg decided his clutch couldn't take it and back down we came, yep winching downwards too!

Dalas getting ready to climb the bank we had decended early in the day.

Seems the crack we heard when he was climbing the bank was an axle shaft!

Oops, looks like we need an in shop repair for this one!

Trail repairs 101, a tree was attached to the bumper and nerf bar to keep the axle from walking out, worked like a hot damn but tore up the outside of the Bogger!

September Long Weekend - MacLean Creek - 2009

September Long the Rocky Mountain Big Wheels headed to MacLean to have some fun in the muck.... and muck we found! Saturday we tackled Fisher East and Sunday we stuck to the West side. A good weekend was had by all.

Ummm, what can I say except oops I slipped!

The passenger side tires were just feeling the breeze!

"Hey, you got any water wings in there?"

Dalas discovers that his first trip to Fisher East was as bad as we told him it would be!

Shawn too!

Carefully navagating a hole!

And Shawn's turn too!

Our little Fuzz-E-Bear catching some zzz's in the holiday trailer shower!

And Fuzz's Mom Foxy Lady and Dad Muskwa figure zzz's are a good plan too!

Group Shot, Rocky Mountain Big Wheels stopping for a break!

Let's cross the muskegg games....  Dalas went first!

Raza-Ma-Taz Second, he needed "four paw" drive!

Shawn getting gooey!

Greg's path a wee bit stickier!

Ken and Andrea make it!

Epic.... "Daddy I don't wanna get out and hook up the winch!"

Tyler coaxes me into the nasty spot of the skegg....

And hooks up the stuck Rubicon!

Overseeing the winch operation...

Dalas turning around ?????

Dalas not able to pull Rubi out, way too stuck!

Don't ask... but I told ya so was not a good response here when the straps broke and the clevis went flying!

Hey look, I found the clevis!

Not a cool place to find it but luckily no-one was hurt.  I told them we should winch not strap!

Goo boy!

One hurting unit!

Making our way across the last part of the skegg!

Foxy says... "hey cracker head aka Shawn, dollars to dog biscuits I can show you how its done!"

Ken and Andrea cutting their trail!

My wolf looking pack of Shepherds..... mucky dirty shepherds!

May Long Weekend - Waiparous - 2009

May Long started and ended with snow, just so we could unpack and pack in the white stuff. The rest of the weekend for the Rocky Mountain Big Wheels was glorious and a good time was had by all.

May 2nd 2009 Opening Weekend - MacLean Creek

Rocky Mountain Big Wheels Bug Out run at MacLEan Creek was a success, with the exception of some icey hills that members without lockers struggled with.

Easter Long Weekend - Waiparous - 2009 - Ground Pounders Turkey Feast

We were the first to pull into the Ghost Airstrip on Easter Long weekend and plowed a trail with the semi as the slushy snow was a foot deep. We spent the rest of the weekend draining our campsite as the temperatures climbed and it was a gorgeous weekend. Wheelin was pretty good with one day run lasting 14 hours and Ken and Andrea's Land Cruiiser spending the night in the bush but the Turkey Dinner was exceptional!
